Cricket world cup is going to begin from 19th February. All over, sports lovers are praying for their home team to win world cup. Even the media of every cricket sporting nation is backing their nation. But, recently a Sri Lankan newspaper columnist has urged the national team not to win the World Cup.
Newspaper’s columnist Russell Palipane has pleaded Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara not to win the coming World Cup. Palipane feared that if Kumar team wins the world cup then it would help the existing the controversial interim committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to strengthen their positions.
SLC is the country’s richest sports governing body and was recently described as one of the country’s most corrupt organization of the country by former sports minister of Sri Lanka C.B Ratnayake.
It is also feared by the newspaper that World cup win would be exploited the ruling party politician in bolstering their images.
Palipane argued that the current interim committee of SLC, which controls the functioning of game in the country, will make use of a cup victory to cement its hold on office without facing elections.
It’s indeed a bizarre demand by a devoted and ardent follower of a game. If, we need to follow this in our country then I think we should have to urge our entire sports person not to win any sports tournament so that, a lesson could teach to all the corrupted sports organizations of the country.
