God will watch Nagpur from heaven on 2nd February

Nagpur lies precisely at the center of India with the Zero Mile stone denoting the geographical center of India. Though Nagpur city is a centre point of our country but on 2nd February this city would be a centre of fascination for rest of the world also, when Maharashtra-based-politician Ravi Rana will tie in nuptial knot with actress Navnnet Kaur in a mass marriage ceremony along with 3,100 couples.

Tomorrow, when the baraat of 3,100 grooms riding on camels, horses and vehicles will start from the Dussehra ground at 8am for Amravati’s Science Core Ground a new record of its own kind will set to establish. This multi-community marriage will enter the Guinness and Limca Record Books as it will be the biggest ever mass marriage performed in the history.900 Buddhist, 600 tribal, 350 Muslim, 150 physically handicapped and the couples from the other communities are entering wedlock on the day.

Enormousness of this mega event could be easily guessed  from the fact the around  700 horses, 350 tonga-buggies,100 camels, decorated trucks and autoricksaws will be the integral part of the Barat. Food will be served to the lakhs of guests at the police ground. For the invitation, around 5 lakhs simple cards have been distributed where as 3 lakhs saris have been distributed among the women invited for the mass marriage.

It is expected that approximately more than 2 lakh guests will attend this ceremony which will comprise guests of each couples, politicians, socialites and actor-actresses including Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut & Sanjay Dutt.

The total spending on the ceremony is estimated as more than Rs 5 crore and will be met jointly by Bharat Swabhiman, Yuva Swabhiman and Patanjali Yoga. Of this, Rs 2 crore could be recovered from the state government which pays Rs 10,000 per couple getting married at such mass-marriage ceremonies as part of farmers' relief package.

Rana and his wife-to be met 3 years before in yoga camp of Baba Ramdev, organized by Rana himself at Mumbai. When asked whether it is a love marriage? Rana replied in modest way “Honestly, it is not a love marriage. We don’t have any courtship. It was Baba who took initiative and organized a meeting of our parents in Haridwar. So, it was more of an arranged marriage. And, I am happy that wedding will be solemnized by Baba himself.”

Rana could have been tied the knot in an ostentatious way. But instead of culminate a grand marriage at any sumptuous venue, he choose Amravati’s Science Core Ground for his marriage.

With an intent to do the things in simpler way, he also choose mass-marriage idea.Representing a district which is part of Vidarbha's farmer suicide belt, I was aware of the hardship and expenses that a farmer or ordinary villager incurs in arranging a daughter's marriage. Such social spending only adds to their debt burden and many a farmer has ended life in desperation. To ease the burden of several such families I decided to hold a grand mass-marriage ceremony," he said.

Perhaps, one of the longest barat in the history of India which might stretch up to few kilometers will force administration to provide good security. Around 1,200 police employees will be deployed in the city for the marriage ceremony. Some mains roads of the city are expected to be blocked for the marriage.

To avoid inconvenience to students,MLA Rana has given a memorandum to collector Richa Bagla to declare a holiday on Wednesday. At least five bomb detection squads and two CRPF companies will provide security cover to the wedding venue.

Citizens who cannot attend the ceremony will be able to catch a glimpse of the ceremony on the eight screens installed at various squares in the city. Around 5 lakh people are expected to attend the mass wedding ceremony, said sources.

Tomorrow, when MLA Ravi Rana will tie the knot with actress Navnnet Kaur along with 3100 other brides and grooms it will appear as if god himself scripted their story of love & marriage, which will be witness by this world. And surely, even god doesn’t want to miss this auspicious moment and would definitely watch this from heaven.
