What is common between Father of India, Mahatma Gandhi and Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar?
Both of them have been listed among the ‘Top 25 Political Icons’ of all time by Time magazine. The list has been released on the 100th birth anniversary of the late US president Ronald Reagan.
Only two leaders from India are managed to take the position in the list. Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Mao Zedong, the father of modern China, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, Adolf Hitler and Mystery of Beauty the Cleopatra are also been included in the list.
The reason for which every Indian could feel proud is that Mahatma Gandhi has topped the list of 25 all time great political leaders. Gandhi’s efforts which ultimately led India to achieve its independence led him to the top of the list.
Characterizing Mohandas Gandhi as a figure “few will ever forget”, the magazine has credited for the inspiration paving the way for other social movements including America’s struggle for civil rights.
The 16th century Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, a figure who has ruled the country for more than 40 years and was largely culpable for unifying the scattered Indian diminutive kingdoms of northern India, also finds a place in the aristocrat list.
Magazines has applauded Mughal ruler and says him a pioneer in the ethos of pluralism and tolerance whose unbiased administration has formulated the values of the modern republic.
